TC@Spain: General Report

Summary of the Project

EurAsian Social ActiveNation (EUASAN) aims to foster trans-continental cooperation in community development (CD) between countries and organizations of Europe (Greece, Spain, Hungary) and Asia (India, Vietnam).

EUASAN comprises of 5 interrelated events (1 Kick off meeting, 2 Training Courses, 1 local implementation in home countries and 1 Final Evaluation meeting) and it will last a total 2 years.

The overall aim is to foster development of communities (marginalised, school, rural area, volunteering and young people with fewer opportunities) by using two interrelated methods a) non-formal education (NFE) for self-development and leadership skills enhancement b) education through sport (ETS).

Beyond EurAsian development between the 5 partners each organization shares common fields of work area where new practices and tools offered by NFE and ETS will add extra value to fostering community engagement, social inclusion, active participation and citizenship. ETS methodology was chosen as it consists of the integration and implementation of sport elements to be used for educational purpose to address social issues, develop social competences and provoke a lasting social transformation. 

EUASAN capacity building project will develop communities on two level: 1) European and Asian youth leaders/workers to build intercultural relations and understanding between these 2 regions 2) within the organizations and their field of work. Participants to gain necessary skills and become trainers/facilitators to involve communities and turn them into active and happy citizens by creating platforms/activities for inclusion.

Profile of Participants

Youth workers , 3 participants per country (Spain, Greece, Hungary and Vietnam), to work on Education through sport tools/methods for community development training of trainers.


The main methodological approach was: reciprocal approach, experiential learning, cooperative learning, participation and peer learning, interactive methods, individual and group activities, effective and active communication, shared responsibility for the flow of the programme, learning from result and outcomes, constructive feedback, self assesment, space for ideas and innovation. -Experimental Learning and "learning by doing" -Learning approach through play and dynamics. -"TAPE" method (taste, analyse , produce, evaluate) - Cooperative learning, which includes educational games, role-playing games, problem solving. -The four pillars of UNESCO's learning: learning to know, learning to do, learning to being, learning to live together. - Tools to work the Youthpass. - fish bowl - 6 thinking hats - Learning reflection and assessment (work with the support sheets/hand-outs) -Speech and roundtables on the themes of the project. - Educational visits -Exchange of good practices -Evaluations.


We did different meetings with the trainers and ACD LA HOYA working group for the preparation of the program and the development of the training course. The working group of ACD LA HOYA has met to prepare the program proposal and work on the objectives and activities to be developed. We have also met with the trainers of the alternative sports that the participants have made during the training course.

Practical Organisation

Throughout the training course there has been a person in charge of the practical organization, informing the participants of all the aspects to be taken into account and being at all times for any needs of the participants and the work team. Transport: It has been organized by partner organizations, all have arrived at the train, bus or airport of Alicante, from there the trip to the hostel has been on foot or by urban bus, for them we sent all participants a document explaining how to get to the accommodation, during the training course we move by on foot. A vehicle has been provided during the entire course, which has been used to transport the training equipment from the city of Elx and to make the necessary travels during the stay. Accommodation: The accommodation has been made in the residence La Florida in Alicante, where participants have had individual rooms, breakfast, lunch and dinner has been made in the same place, we have taken into account all the needs of the participants and warned in the kitchen of them. Material: Upon arrival, all participants were provided with a dossier with the necessary teaching material for the course and with information that could be useful, and the appropriate material was organized for the different activities and training sessions. Equipment: During the training course we had a music system, projector for the sessions, various materials for the activities, a classroom. Pendants Names: Some pendants have been made with the names of all the participants, in the back we have indicated the needs of those who had them, celiac, allergies, etc, to make the work easier in the kitchen.

1-Which new skills and knowledge you gained during the TC in Spain, explain some of them:
-New Sports: Surfing, Ultimate, Nordic Walk.
New Knowledge: Kolb´s model, how to plan and generate the idea of the full Project step by step, Spanish Culture
-Team-work, Leadership, Education through & by sport
-I had upgraded with teamwork, collaborate and leadership, also gain theory of Education for/by/through sports combine with many interesting games and physical activities.
-ETS, EFS, EBS, cooperation, leadership, learning to learn.
-The different education through/for/by sports.
-Communication, cooperation, leadership, be more active, new games + more knowledge about organizing things.
-I did not know how powerful sport was and how much you can teach through it. It is such and amazing tool to use for kids,I´d really love to use it.

2-Which impact the training course in Spain created to you?
-You can always do more tan what you are doing. It is very important to be willing to learn.
-I saw the conection of leadership with sports in the practical way.
-I have learnt different knowledge for the future and use with my children´s class.
-I improved myself, i feel i can be decisive person in any type of community.
-This TC gave me the theory and lead me how to contribute for communities development with a new interesting term of education.
-I can learn and improve myself as weel as my community in many different ways.
-After the TC in Spain, I´ll receive the Youthpass so i can officially start training the youth in my country, starting from my organization. Be responsable with myself & my organization & my community.

3-Most interesting activity, workshop, learning tool:
-Kolb´s model: Soo helpful not only for doing social projects, yet applying in the real life.
Activity: Night stealing game, flamenco lesson, Implementing the projects in groups-laboratory.
-Football game, beach activities.
-Interesting theory, games
Helpful participants.
-Games on the beach, Ultimate Frisbee.
-Orientation workshop, Ultimate and water sports.
-Surf, football, frisbee.
-I take every single game. The football and orientation were some of my favorites.

4- Suggestions
-The final part + writing the proposals could be more interesting.
-More participants will be nice for some activities
-More cultural activities to see and understand the Spanish culture.

Evaluation with trainers

During the days in INDIA we had a preliminary meeting to plan the activities that would take place in Alicante. Then, during the previous weeks to the training we had other exchange of emails and phone calls to adjust the programme and distribute the sessions of each trainer. Before the training, for the development of the activity programme we had some meetings and conversations about the content of the trainings and the flow of the programme. During the activities we had a continuous feedback to adjust the activities to the group. After the training we agreed on a regular check-up with the participants to follow their local activity plan. The work was divided in 3 parts. Introduction to the concept of Education Through Sports, then practice and then planning the local activities. The team of trainers, composed by 2 of us, had a good work-flow and connection since the beginning. The fact that we knew each other from the previous phase (India), facilitated very much the process. Being training in this project has been very interesting experience. The concept of the whole project is very good and the ETS method as a tool for community development a very good choice. I consider that having the same participants in the 2 phases of the training and also in the local activities has been a very good idea, however, in some cases, I'm not sure if the chosen participants have a clear motivation to make a change and impact their local communities. Furthermore, the fact of missing some countries in the second part of the project (training in Alicante) had a negative influence in the group and it was a bit challenging to understand and continue. It would have been much more better to have also India and nepal, but I understand that the coordination issues are beyond the reach of the trainers... Thanks for the opportunity to be trainer in this project.


We had clear communication, goals and planning for the expected outcome of the first training course. Due to the partnership issues and problems arouse between the coordination I got very last minute confirmation less than a week before the TC that it will actually happen. Other than this, all other matters functioned very well between local host and me. It was a good consensus-based work completing together the full set of activities and learning meadow envisaged. Good communication and collaboration, supportive environment and appropriate division of tasks. Each trainer with their specific personal and knowledge-based skills contributed to the success of the TC. Good local team with strong supportive background and members. Dedicated to help, flexible with arrangements and extra supportive input with local connections to the variety of the Training program too. We have a good amount of media – professional pictures and video. Various layers of evaluation from the participants. Soft copy documents that were created by participants during the course. Stronger bond and collaborative practices. Clear and direct communication is always a key for success and the good base for understanding, it is good to keep it up.

Impact (participants and organizations)


The IMPACT was: -Learning experience -Active contribution related to non-formal education and community development and good practices -Competences gained as a result of taking part, sharing, exchanging and working with all participants. -Personal and professional contacts with organizations and youth workers across two continents; - Acquisition of soft skills, knowledge and competences about self development & leadership of NFE and community development by ETS tools in the field of youth work (creative thinking, organizational management, project management, NFE, communication, promotion and dissemination); -Personal, professional development and increased operational effectiveness through knowledge, skills and innovative NFE tools in the NGO framework; - Empowerment as drivers of local community development. - Ability to act as multipliers of project contents and results through knowledge of and ability to replicate innovative NFE instruments in the NGO sector;


The IMPACT was: -Increased capacity to operate/ cooperate and share best practices at the specifically selected EurAsian region. -Improved management skills and capacity of involvement in long-term partnership and set-up of a network of EurAsian youth/education/cultural field programmes as support for organizations interested in developing the cooperation between these regions. -Development of a long-term framework of cooperation with partners from Europe and Asia. -Acquisition of innovative NFE (self development & leadership ) tools and community development by ETS to enabling partners to effectively operate as educational providers spreading knowledge, values and tools in the NGO sector among youngsters, as well as to foster their professional use of NFE; -Increased quality in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and follow-up of international projects.

Visibility - Dissemination

We have made the visibility / Dissemination of the project through the backpacks and t-shirts given to the participants with the logos of the agency and the program and have used them during the days of the course. The diary newsletter created during the training course with information about the day. The newsletter created after the project with all the information, pictures and next steps of the project The professional video created for the training Course The professional photos of the project. Through the poster created for the TC that has been placed in the workplace. The roll-up of the training course that we have used in the work room and in the outside activities that we have made. The different articles post in social networks about the project. The post and articles in the Facebook group created for the course and the personal posts of the participants that have been shared in their social networks, giving diffusion to the program and what they did in the training course.

Overall Rating

The activity has developed without notable incidents. For our part ACD LA HOYA, it has been a pity the lack of participants on the part of the partner organizations in the project, since from Indian organization nobody participate, not being able to get visa. One of the participants of the Greek organization who has had to return to his country to solve personal problems. But the objectives set for the training course have been fulfilled. Among the work team (ACD and Trainers), cooperation has been very easy since known each other for many years and we all have experience in organizing training courses. After the training course, our organization ACD LA HOYA has made an evaluation of the whole project, we have all agree that the project has gone very well, the group has worked on the scheduled tasks and all the sessions have been developed, the general assessment of the participants It has been positive and the activities, workshops, and scheduled sessions have been very positive evaluated.
